OpenAI just released public pricing to its AI Video Generator, Sora. You pay per second of finished video. There are three quality tiers – standard quality is the most affordable, pro quality is sharper, and “pro big canvas” gives you the crispest look. The costs below assume you keep the first take with zero revisions.

A 30 second spot on Standard is $3 without running any revisions (typically, AI video does take quite a few revisions because the tech is so early). The same 30 seconds, but with higher pixels/quality on the Pro plan is $9. For the best quality, a 30 second spot (again, no revisions) is going to take $15.

In tech, that’s a lot of money for 1 output. If you needed to revise a clip 20 times before it’s ready to be shared – you’d end up spending about $300 with the Pro Plan on a 30 second clip. A great ROI for a film studio but a lot of money for marketing teams that are looking for quick, easy stuff to post.
If you mostly post for mobile, Standard is the cheapest way to test lots of ideas fast and its technical limitations aren’t a big deal for mobile. Sora Pro is more suitable when you need extra clarity on product details and Pro big canvas is especially for hero shots, ads, or anything that will be viewed on large screens.
Sora pricing is now straightforward. Count your seconds, pick your tier, add a small redo buffer, and you have a plan that finance can approve in minutes. Test lots of short clips at Standard to find the message. Upgrade only the winners to Pro when you need the extra shine.
